Reports To: Executive Director

Purpose:  The Development Coordinator serves as the primary fundraising manager and donor relations coordinator for the Iowa County Humane Society.  These responsibilities include building relationships with local businesses and community members, making direct asks to donors, and maintaining positive relationships with all donors. Responsibilities include management of the Humane Society’s direct mail campaigns as well as planning and implementing fundraising efforts, fundraising events, and seeking other funding opportunities, such as grant opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage annual funding plans with the Executive Director.

  • Create promotional materials for fundraising campaigns.

  • Prepare reports and presentations to track fundraising progress and donor engagement.

  • Cultivate relationships with potential sponsors, and community partners.

  • Assist with grant writing and reporting to secure funding from foundations and government agencies.

  • Oversee volunteer involvement in fundraising activities and events.

  • Represent the shelter at community events and meetings to promote the organization's mission.

  • Organize and manage fundraising events, including planning, promotion, and execution.

  • Assist Executive Director in managing donor management software.

  • Assist Executive Director in developing and implementing direct mail campaigns.

Annual Budgetary responsibilities: Meet mutually agreed upon annual fund goals and demonstrate fiscal responsibility by working within budgetary constraints, while maximizing fundraising revenue.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of tactics and techniques for raising money

Kennel Assistant There is currently no position to fill

As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing care and support to the animals in our facility.

Hours: Part-time

2-3 weekends per month with 1 - 2 weekdays

  • Weekdays 8:30am - 5:30pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8:30am - 4:30pm

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and attention to cats and dogs in the kennel
  • Feed, water, and exercise animals according to their individual needs
  • Clean and maintain kennels, cages, and common areas
  • Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to the veterinary staff
  • Assist with administering medications as directed
  • Assist with grooming and bathing of animals
  • Handle animals safely and with compassion during procedures or examinations
  • Assist with basic training exercises for dogs
  • Maintain accurate records of animal care and treatments
  • Assist in meet and greets to potential adopters

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Must have a genuine love for animals and a desire to provide them with the best care possible

Office Assistant There is currently no position to fill

Under the supervision of the Office Manager, the Office Assistant provides compassionate, professional front-desk support, including handling adoptions, animal intake, and community resource assistance. This role requires excellent customer service skills, administrative proficiency, and occasional assistance with animal care duties.

Hours: Part-time

2 weekends per month, 3-hour shifts

Responsibilities:

  • Answers phone calls and promptly responds to messages and email

  • Provide accurate, courteous information to the public about ICHS animals, adoption procedures, and lost/found processes.

  • Process payments for adoptions, animal surrenders, and redemptions in accordance with ICHS policies.

  • Educate and assist prospective adopters, completing adoption paperwork as needed.

  • Remain professional and composed in stressful or emotional situations.

  • Understand and communicate ICHS policies and animal welfare best practices.

  • Maintain accurate records using tools such as Excel and Google Docs/Sheets.

  • Support other staff and departments as needed.

  • Uphold a clean, professional appearance and punctual attendance.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to humanely handle animals and interpret various behavior

  • May be exposed to bites, scratches, and animal allergens

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to pet dander, odors, cleaning chemicals, and loud noise

  • May involve working with emotionally distressed clients

  • Fast-paced and dynamic shelter environment

 

Kennel Manager There is currently no position to fill

Directly lead, develop, oversee and evaluate the Iowa County Humane Society's kennel staff and foster program. Responsible for the supervision of the kennel, managing and training kennel personnel, ensuring all animals receive veterinary care and ensuring the humane care of all animals at the shelter.

Hours: Full-time

Monday - Friday (Occasional weekend for fill in)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general feeding, watering and general care of all animals housed at the shelter
  • Oversee the general cleanliness and sanitation of the shelter
  • Enforce/modify cleaning, intake, and animal care SOP’s
  • Responsible for animal intake determinations, including surrenders, strays, and quarantine
  • Perform/manage animal intake including but not limited to physical examinations, vaccinations, and dosing/administering medications
  • Properly maintain medical records and behavioral reports in shelter software
  • Transport of animals as needed
  • Hire kennel staff/monitor and evaluate job performance/handle disciplinary actions
  • Oversee training of kennel staff and kennel volunteers
  • Work alongside various veterinary clinics to maintain timely care for animals including but not limited to spay/neuters, special surgeries, sick cases, and bite orders
  • Work alongside veterinarian of record with animal treatment SOP’s
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other rescues, shelters, and other organizations
  • Order and maintain kennel supplies
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of animal behavior, habits, and husbandry
  • Advanced animal handling skills
  • Knowledge of animal welfare programs
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate routine work records and digital shelter records
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to supervise the work of assigned subordinates
  • Must be available to work weekends periodically
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

This position is ideal for individuals who are dedicated to animal welfare and possess strong leadership abilities within a kennel environment

Education and/or Experience - Any of the following

  • Minimum 2 years in animal medicine
  • Bachelors in Animal Science
  • Associates in Animal Science
  • Certified Veterinary Technician

 

Kennel Attendant There is currently 1 position to fill

Daily cleaning of all animal kennels and rooms; providing daily water and appropriate diets to all animals; Communication with manager regarding behavior and health concerns; handling and restraining animals in a safe and humane manner.

Hours: Part-time 2-3 mornings a week and  2 weekends a month

Shift is 8:30am - approx 11:30am. Holiday hours are paid at time and a half.

Job Description/Major Responsibilities: Clean and maintain all animal kennels and rooms, providing proper animal husbandry, following established disease control protocols and using products in a timely manner.

  • Provide food and water daily to all animals in accordance with established feeding protocols.

  • Handle and restrain animals in a safe and humane manner.

  • Carefully observe animal health and behavior and provide proper communication of such with the Manager.

  • Ensure that all animals have blankets or appropriate bedding and toys at all times.

  • Properly clean dog kennels, cat cages and cat rooms.

Required Skill and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Must be willing to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays

  • Previous experience with animals preferred

  • Ability to interact with and handle stray, sick, and injured dogs and cats

  • Ability to handle seeing and dealing with animals that have been abused, neglected or treated cruelly.

  • Must be able to work in conditions that involves exposure to animals of various temperaments, loud noises,

  • Ability to work independently and within a group

  • Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to handle dogs of all sizes

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Must be able to tolerate loud working conditions

  • Allergic conditions, which could be aggravated when handling or working with animals, may be a disqualification

  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including but not limited to: lifting and carrying, reaching, stopping, squatting, cleaning and bending, and being on feet for long periods of time.
