Met our new Executive Director, Claudia Looze
Looze’s background as a nonprofit director, combined with a deep passion for animal welfare, will help further advance the mission of the organization that will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. “After an extensive interview process with many highly qualified candidates we are thrilled to bring Claudia on board,” says Donna Griffin, Iowa County Humane Society Board President. “Her experience, knowledge of nonprofit management and organizational development, as well as her passion for our mission made her the ideal choice for ICHS and our community.”

When Looze assumes the role October 3, she will oversee operations for the shelter known for its successful adoptions and its education and training resources. Looze will also lead fundraising and volunteer programs, as well as marketing and community engagement initiatives. “As a native of Wisconsin and resident of Iowa County, I consider ICHS one of the true gems of our region,” says Looze. "I am excited to join such a dedicated and talented group serving the animals and residents of southwestern Wisconsin. I look forward to leading the organization and building on its successes, saving and advocating for animals in need.” Learn more here...

Marco.jpegThank you to all who joined us at the Clear the Shelter Event!
It would not have happened without the assistance of our dedicated staff and volunteers - so a big thank you goes out to them too.  It was a true success.

The adoption about which we are most excited is that of Marco, an adult ginger and white cat who is FeLV positive. In the past, interested adopters who would stop to visit with him in his kitty condo would move on quickly after seeing his FeLV status. But only hours after the broadcast about our event on Channel 27, a couple came in asking to see the cat who was least likely to be adopted -- thus Marco found his forever home.

Sponsor a Kennel

Each year hundreds of animals come to Iowa County Humane Society after being found as strays, surrendered, or abandoned.  They are usually frightened, anxious and in need of a safe place.  Our kennel sponsorship program is a unique gift that will help our rescue animals have a safe place while they are staying at the Iowa County Humane Society. Every animal that resides in that kennel or room will benefit from your support.  Click here to learn more...

SHELTER UPDATE

Although the times may be uncertain, we are certain that there has been a lot of good happening at the Iowa County Humane Society. We have continued to be able to help a lot of animals find forever homes, place animals with foster families, and been able to continue our mission of helping the animals of our communities. None of this would be possible without our supporters.

We are currently working to develop reopening procedures based on the recommendations put out by the Iowa County Health Department.  At this time, we will continue to do business and adoptions by appointment. If you have questions regarding our current process, adoptions, or other business, please call 608-935-1381.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

There is no better time than now to become a foster! Everything you need will be provided by the Iowa County Humane Society.  With the recent updates of the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel there is an urgent need to be able to clear the shelter of animals. Our goal is to clear the shelter in the case of a state mandated lock down policy.

We are urgently looking for foster families, which can be both short or long term. If you can help us by being a foster family for a dog or cat an application can be found under our Volunteer tab.

As always, we sincerely appreciate everyone's support as we navigate these unprecedented times. If you are unable to adopt or foster at this time but would still like to provide support, please consider a donation. Donations can be now at our donate button.

We are also currently still open for adoptions by appointment only. To make an adoption appointment please call 608-935-1381, and fill out an application under our Adoption tab.

Thank you from all of us, and the animals of Iowa County!

COVID-19 Pet Preparedness

While we prepare to care for our families and loved ones, remember our furry friends.
Do you have a plan in place for your pets in an emergency if you are sick or require hospitalization? Who will care for them? Will they have enough food, medication, litter, or other necessary supplies?

Although there is no current evidence that suggests the coronavirus can be transmitted to or from companion animals, it’s always a good idea to follow basic hygiene practices around animals. This includes washing your hands thoroughly throughout the day and before and after direct contact with your pets, their food or their supplies.
