FOR SALE

This is the news about ICHS’s current location. For many years, a long time ICHS supporter has very generously donated the land and building to ICHS at a low rental fee. The current economic conditions have adversely affected this support and, as a result, the supporter is no longer able to continue with this generous donation. The ICHS Board of Directors has been aware that the possibility existed that our present location would come up for sale and has already been exploringoptions for the shelter. Please be assured that they will continue to work hard in the upcoming weeks to identify viable options including either purchasing the current site or exploring other suitable locations for the shelter. We are confident that the shelter will be able to continue to provide the services for Iowa County animals and citizens that come to us for assistance and are committed to finding a long term location for the organization’s home. Updated Information as of 2-22-10

Todd gave an update after speaking with Sharon McGann the current owner of the property today.

There are two parcels to be sold, the first is the parcel the building sits on consisting of three acres. She is asking $275,000 for this parcel.

The second parcel also consists of three acres and is the land where the outdoor dog runs are currently: asking $65000.

She is willing to sell us the building and lease us the land with the dog runs if it is easier to raise the lesser amount of money.

Todd explained that we are still waiting for a decision from the IRS. According to word from our lawyer last week we are to have a decision in 30 days. Once an agreement has been made we can move forward with fundraising.

In the mean time Todd has spoken with Farmers Savings Bank who is willing to work with us on the purchase but would require a down payment of 30%, roughly $100,000.

We are also looking into grant opportunities with the help of some wonderful grant writers who have volunteered to help us out and Todd is looking into a Community Block Grant.

3/25/10 Update:

The IRS still has us in a holding pattern over the tax matter, requesting additional information. We are hopeful that this issue will be resolved shortly but in the meantime, we want to assure everyone that we will continue to be here for the animals for the foreseeable future. We are working hard exploring the options that are open to us so that we remain the animal welfare professionals for Iowa County.
